Suriya recently made a breaking announcement stating that his next film, Soorarai Pottru will be directly released on Prime Video OTT platform on October 30. This decision from Suriya took everyone by surprise and it created a huge buzz in the industry. However, a lot of fans have been disappointed by the fact that they wouldn’t be able to celebrate the film in the theatres. Directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, this biopic drama will be released in over 200 countries on the said date. When Suriya made the announcement about Soorarai Pottru’s OTT release, he revealed that he would be donating a sum of Rs 5 crores from the revenue generated through the film. Suriya added that the relief fund will be donated to the frontline workers, corona warriors as well as film technicians and workers, who are in need.

Having said that, the initiations have now begun and as a start, Suriya made a donation of Rs 1.5 crores for the film industry workers. A sum of Rs 1 crore given to FEFSI in which a cheque for Rs. 80 Lakhs was handed over to FEFSI President R.K. Selvamani and a cheque for Rs 20 Lakhs was handed over to R.V. Udhayakumar, Secretary, TANTIS for the director’s union, which is an integral part of FEFSI. A cheque for Rs 30 lakhs was given to Producer Kalaipuli S.Thanu for Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council, which will be handed over to the special officer. Another cheque Rs 20 lakhs was given to Nadigar Sangam and was handed over to Actor Nasser, which will be given to the special officer of Nadigar Sangam.

This event was held this morning (August 28) at Bharathiraja Film Institute in Chennai. Suriya’s father Sivakumar and director of 2D Entertainment, Rajasekar Karpoorasundarapandian made the donations on behalf of Suriya. Producers like Suresh Kamatchi and Lalit Kumar were also present in the event. Out of the 5 crores, 1.5 crores has now been donated. Details of further distribution of funds will be announced soon. This immediate reaction from Suriya has earned him a good name among the people in the industry and the fans are also sharing this update with delight.
