Ponniyin Selvan sensation shares an unseen Ajith Kumar footage
Ponniyin Selvan cinematographer Ravi Varman is known for realistic and poetic framing sense. The ace cameraman was born in a village called Poyyoundarkudikkadu near Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. Varman lost his mother at a young age. Just before she died there was a wedding in his neighborhood and his mother’s image was accidentally captured by the wedding photographer in one of the photos. Varman went to the studio and asked for a picture to be enlarged and learnt what "out of focus" meant. Thus, he developed an interest in photography and grew up with a passion for watching movies – though at the time, he never considered working in film as a possible career. He later joined as assistant to Ravi K Chandran before debuting as a cinematographer through Malayalam film industry. His debut Tamil was Five Star which was produced by Mani Ratnam in the year 2003. Then worked in Autograph before getting his big break with Shankar’s Anniyan which released in 2005. Since then, there is no looking back as a cinematographer for Ravi Varman. He then worked in Vettaiyaadhu Vilayaadhu with Gautham Menon, then Dasavatharam and Villu. He took a break from Tamil film industry for close to 8 years after Villu since he was concentrating more on Hindi movies. Between 2012 and 2019, Ravi Varman has worked in some of the best made Hindi films like Barfi, Ram Leela, Tamasha and Sanju to name a few. He again returned to Tamil in 2017 with Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai.
He currently working with Mani Ratnam again for his magnum opus historical fictional entertainer Ponniyin Selvan. It’s been truly a sensational career for Ravi Varman. Now the ace cinematographer has shared an old memory on his Twitter. He has posted a unseen photo of himself with Ajith Kumar in frame with the text - “Golden Age.” The photo looks to be captured from the sets of Kandukondain Kandukondain in which his guru Ravi K Chandran was the cinematographer. Ravi Varman has not worked with Ajith Kumar so far and we wish they team up for a film very soon. Meanwhile, check out this unseen nostalgic old photograph shared by Ravi Varman.
