A show that has attained cult classic status ever since it began airing in the early 2000s, Vijay TV's Lollu Sabha continues to be a fan favorite for '90s kids everywhere and was broadcast once again on the channel last year during the lockdown phase. Lollu Sabha, which aired 150 episodes from August 2004 to August 2007, enjoyed massive ratings back in the day, was created by Ram Bhala, who served as the director, with Mimicry Moorthy as the script writer.

Lollu Sabha primarily served as a spoof of a Tamil film or a television show, with several notable talents going on to become household names and also incidentally launched Santhanam into films as a full-time comedian, who then ventured to play lead roles. Likewise, actors like Jeeva, Swaminathan, Balaji, Manohar, Maran, Jangiri Madhumitha made a strong impression among Tamil audiences with their comedy, including current comedy superstar Yogi Babu as well making appearances on the smash hit show. That said, on Wednesday, a confusion ensued after a few print and online media reported that Lollu Sabha’s Maran had passed away, when in reality another popular comedy actor Maaran a.k.a Manimaran had died due to COVID-19 complication.

Maaran, the actor who passed away due to COVID-19, had acted in a number of popular films like Ghilli, Thalainagaram, Boss Engira Bhaskaran, including the upcoming Sarpatta Parambarai. On the other hand, Lollu Sabha's Maran, who has acted in many films, including Santhanam's A1 and Parris Jeyaraj, cleared the confusion by appearing on video to issue a clarification over the mistake made by a few print and online media. Maran posted the video clarification in view of the concerns shared by some of his family members and friends and informed viewers that he is all well and requested everyone to take good care of themselves during the ongoing second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
