Master director Lokesh Kanagaraj's film to be remade - Puli producer onboard!
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is one of the most sought after directors in Tamil cinema who is awaiting the release of his next film, Master, starring Thalapathy Vijay. Lokesh made his debut with the critically acclaimed drama, Maanagaram which was a hyperlink story that connects four different stories together at one juncture. The film was raved by the critics during its release and it picked up at the box office after the positive reviews. The film was lauded for its strong writing, gripping screenplay and neat packaging. Maanagaram was produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under the banner of Potential Studios and it was released in March 2017. The film’s star cast included Onaayum Aattukuttiyum fame Sri, Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassandra, Charlie, Madhusudhan Rao, Munishkanth, Vivek Prasanna and others.
Post the release of Maanagaram, there has been no lookback for Lokesh Kanagaraj and the young talent is geared up to begin shooting for his untitled next with Kamal Haasan. Meanwhile, it has now been revealed that Maanagaram is all set to be remade in Hindi. The Hindi remake is now in the pre production stages and the makers are planning to go on floors from the first week of January 2021. The exciting aspect about the Hindi remake is that it is going to be directed by the legendary cinematographer Santosh Sivan. Yes! The Thuppakki cinematographer will be wielding the megaphone for this remake which will star the young and happening Vikrant Massey as one of the leads.
Vikrant Massey attained popularity as an actor through films like Lootera, Dil Dhadakne Do, A Death In The Gunj, Lipstick Under My Burkha, Chhapaak and more. Details regarding the other male lead and the female lead is yet to be known and we will update about it in the coming days. The film has been planned to be shot completely in Mumbai and the shoot will happen mostly at nights, as the film's story deals with the incidents that happen in one night. It is going to be interesting to see how Santosh Sivan and team is going to make changes from the original to suit the taste of the Hindi audience.
This untitled Hindi remake will be produced by Shibu Thameens under the banner of Thameens Films. Shibu has produced films like Puli, Iru Mugan and Saamy Square in Tamil. Apart from Maanagaram, Lokesh's other directorial, Kaithi is also planned to be remade in Hindi and it will feature Ajay Devgn reprising Karthi's role. We will have to wait for a few more months to know if Master will also head for a Bollywood remake and in that case, Lokesh would strike a hat-trick!
