The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday issued a press bulletin regarding the official number of coronavirus cases in the state. Today saw the highest number of COVID-19 cases in TN with 231 people testing positive among whom also includes a 48-year-old transgender with the state's total rising to 2,757.

There has been a spike in the number of cases this past week, especially in Chennai city alone over the last three days. Chennai alone has recorded 174 cases out of 231 cases in the entire state with the total in the city/district going up to 1,257 people being infected by the COVID-19 virus in the past 24 hours. Other districts that have seen positive cases being recorded today include Ariyalur with 18, Kanchipuram with 13, Tiruvallur with 7, Chengalpattu with 5, and 2 each at Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ramnad, Tiruppur and Viluppuram while Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Theni have reported 1 case each.

A 76-year-old Chennai woman admitted in the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital died today taking the death toll in the state to 29 people. There hasn't been a big significant rise in the number of people discharged today with 29 people making a recovery while the total tally of those cured has gone up to 1,341. The number of tests conducted for the detection of the fatal disease in these past 24 hours has been revealed to be around 10,049 taking the state's total count to 1,30,132 while the samples collected today are 10,127 and the overall stands at 1,39,490.
