Chinese-Canadian pop idol Kris Wu has been arrested on allegations of raping a teenager. In a statement issued by the prosecutor’s office of the Beijing district of Chaoyang, it has been confirmed that the charges against the 30-year-old star have been officially approved. Soon after his arrest, Chinese media websites removed all content related to Kris Wu. As of now, a statement from the prosecutor's office is awaited on the charges Kris Wu will be facing for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old. Prior to his arrest, he had denied the allegations levelled against him of luring young women for auditions, including forcing them to do sexual favors. 

Initially, Kris Wu was speculated by the local media to being investigated for charges that include sexual assault, threatening and more. He was detained at a facility in Chaoyang before being arrested on August 16. On August 18, China Netcasting Service Association (CNSA) extended their support to service providers like Youku and iQiyi in removing content related to Kris Wu. Their statement read: "Online streaming platforms, such as Youku, iQiyi, and Tencent, have removed works related to Wu Yi Fan. Tencent, who had a collaboration deal with Wu Yi Fan, immediately terminated the arrangement and notified him when the incident first came to light. Mango TV signed a 'Letter of Commitment To Be An Ethical Next Generation Artist Through Self-Discipline' with more than 80 celebrities." 

CNSA further added, "Baidu has labelled Wu Yi Fan as 'an unethical artist who broke the law.' Weibo has suspended Wu Yi Fan's personal and studio's accounts. According to the data our members sent to us, as of August 17, 10am, 1.9 million short clips and 7,000 shows have been taken care of." Their statement concluded, "Currently, the work of reviewing and taking action on related shows is still ongoing. 'Multiple platforms removed Wu Yi Fan's work' quickly started trending on Weibo and generated a lot of buzz among users, leading to huge support from the public."

Outside of his singing career, Kris Wu has also made appearances on the big screen and television, with his most notable film roles being Somewhere Only We Know, Mr. Six, L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties, Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back, XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Europe Raiders and L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties 2 to name a notable few.
