Dhanush made his debut in Hindi cinema with the romantic drama, Raanjhanaa that was directed by Aanand L Rai. The film featured Sonam Kapoor as the female lead. The film featured Abhay Deol, Swara Bhaskar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Ishwak Singh, Shilpi Marwaha in supporting roles. The film had music scored by A.R.Rahman whose songs were a big hit among the youngsters and music lovers. Raanjhanaa had some memorable performances from the lead actors and it was well appreciated by the critics and fans.

After 7 years since its release, the film is now being slammed by actor Abhay Deol who played the character of Akram Zaidi/Jasjeet Singh Shergill. Abhay Deol criticized the film’s writing and said that it glorified stalking and sexual harassment. There are scenes in the film where Kundan (Dhanush) goes behind Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) constantly until she relents. Abhay Deol said that these scenes have a direct impact on the society, adding that it leads to sexual violence. He also said that the film had a regressive message. Abhay Deol appreciated the post written by a blogger and shared it on his official Instagram page.

He wrote, "Such clear and valid insight from @oldschoolrebel9 regarding the film Raanjhana. History will not look kindly at this film for its regressive message. It’s been a theme in Bollywood for decades, where a boy can (and should), pursue a girl until she relents. Only in cinema does she do that willfully. In reality we have seen time and again that it leads to sexual violence of some sort. Glorifying it on screen only leads to blaming the victim, as @oldschoolrebel9 explains it so brilliantly. Please do take time out to read her observations in the pics above. #shedoesnotlikeyou #growup #gloryfyingsexualharrasment”.

This post from Abhay Deol has garnered a lot of attention and buzz on social media. Abhay has been someone who is known for voicing his opinions strongly and this post is yet another reflection of that.

Abhay Deol’s last big release was the Sivakarthikeyan starrer Hero in which he played the role of an antagonist. He has quite a few interesting projects in his line up and we can expect announcements about it in the coming months. Stay tuned. For now, check out his latest viral post about Raanjhanaa here:
