A shocking incident has come to light from the Afghanistan capital city of Kabul. Saba Sahar, one of the country's first female producers and directors, has been hospitalised after being subject to a gun attack! Media reports report Saba Sahar's husband Emal Zaki as stating that Saba had been travelling to work by car, when three gunmen reportedly opened fire on the car. The car also had two of Saba Sahar's bodyguards and her child, apart from the driver and Saba. Emal Zaki confirmed that Saba Sahar had been shot in the stomach but had undergone successful surgery for the same. However, the seriousness of her injuries are yet to be ascertained.

Emal Zaki has reportedly told international media that upon hearing the news, he had rushed to the scene and found all the passengers of the car, wounded! Talking of Saba Sahar, he mentioned that after giving her first aid, she was rushed to the emergency hospital before being shifted to the Police hospital! The reason behind the attack is as yet unknown. However, Saba Sahar has been a prominent voice for women's rights and a prominent campaigner against corruption, in the country. Her movies have explored these topics and it has not gone down well with all the sections of the society.

Earlier, during the Civil War of the 1990s, Saba Sahar left Afghanistan, after the Taliban government was overthrown. She then returned home in early 2000s and resumed her acting career. She made her directorial debut with the 2004 movie The Law, which was a success! Recently, the international organization Amnesty International had stated that there was an "extremely worrying" rise in acts on human rights activists and cultural figures in Afghanistan! There are also reports that Saba Sahar had been trained as a Police officer, earlier! We hope Saba Sahar returns to normalcy, soon!
