Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that The Conjuring 4 is officially in the works in association with writers David Leslie Johnson and McGoldrick returning along with producing duo James Wan and Peter Safran all of whom are well known for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Johnson and McGoldrick are franchise favorites and frequent collaborators of Wan as they had written the second and third Conjuring films as well as Wan's upcoming DCEU (Detective Comics Extended Universe) sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which also features The Conjuring star Patrick Wilson alongside Jason Momoa.

Wan also announced that both Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be returning for the upcoming sequel through an Instagram post. Sharing an image of an article, he wrote, "THE CONJURING 4. Here you go. We’ve been slowly and carefully crafting away on this. We didn’t want to rush this until we’ve got something that is worthwhile. And I’m really excited and encouraged with the direction David is working on. Even more excited to have @verafarmiga and @thereelpatrickwilson back! #TheConjuring4 #conjuringuniverse ". The pair have starred as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in four movies in the Conjuring universe. They reprised their roles in 2021's The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The Devil Made Me Do It was directed by Michael Chaves, who is currently at work helming another Conjuring universe spin-off with The Nun 2, which just entered production in France earlier this month.

The Conjuring has become the highest-grossing horror franchise to date and of the most successful franchises in modern media. Though no director has been confirmed yet for The Conjuring 4 it's possible Chaves could take up the mantle once more. The Conjuring 4 does not yet have a release date.
