India is in the last day of the third phase of the nation-wide lockdown and an announcement on any further lockdown is yet to be made. Maharashtra has already extended the lockdown till May 31st! After a series of days with very high numbers of new COVID-19 affected cases, Tamil Nadu has finally been seeing a couple of days with numbers below 500. However, the numbers are still very high and the spread doesn't seem to have plateaued yet! Meanwhile, we have just had a shocking update from the district of Nagapattinam!
A latest report states that 2 ration shop employees who returned to Nagapattinam from Chennai, have tested positive for the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus. Both these men have been working in different ration shops but were said to be staying together. They have both been admitted to the Nagapattinam General Hospital (GH), as opposed to the earlier practice of sending COVID-19 positive patients to Tiruvarur, for treatment! Dr. Liyakath Ali, the District Epidemiologist, has stated that henceforth all COVID positive cases would be treated locally itself! Of the two men, one is aged 51 and hails from Okkur, in Kilvelur while the other is aged 49 and hails from Kottarakudi, in Thirumargal! With these 2 new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nagapattinam has gone up to 50!
