A film that was scheduled to hit screens on April 9 earlier this year, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master has since been put on hold by XB Film Creators, in view of the coronavirus pandemic crisis. With the COVID-19 outbreak yet to be contained in Tamil Nadu including across India and the rest of the world, the film's audio was launched on March 15 amidst much fanfare and celebration. There were speculations that the film could make its way to screen this Diwali in November, but with people continuing to test positive for the infectious disease, there have been talks that it might come out only as a Pongal 2021 release.

As the Master team is currently on a sabbatical owing to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has now taken to his Instagram page to share a picture of himself with his team of assistant directors, who worked in the upcoming 'Thalapathy' Vijay starrer. This recent picture has left many fans excited, with a number of them asking for an update from the film, which has 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi playing the antagonist. Master is Lokesh Kanagaraj's third directorial venture after his acclaimed debut, Maanagaram, in 2017, which he followed up with the Karthi starrer action blockbuster, Kaithi, last year. Fans were delighted when it was announced that Vijay would be teaming up with the young director, who has made heads turn across the Tamil film industry with his two films so far. Expectations for Master shot up especially after the film's songs composed by Anirudh Ravichander received a staggering response. With the album declared a smash success, a majority of the fans are now waiting with bated breath as to what the team will surprise them with next.

Apart from Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi, Master also includes Malavika Mohanan as the female lead followed by Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others in the supporting cast. There had been a talk that the film might release on the OTT platform medium, which the makers have since gone on to deny saying it deserves to be watched only on the big screen.
