Ace director Mani Ratnam started his film career with a Kannada film Pallavi Anu Pallavi. He then went on to direct a Malayalam film and then 2 unsuccessful before tasting his first blockbuster Tamil film in the form of Mouna Ragam. He then made cult classics like Nayakan, Agni Natchathiram, Roja, Bombay, Aalaipayuthey. He is one of the very few directors who adapts to the tastes of the younger generation. He is currently working on the historical epic Ponniyin Selvan which happens to be an adaption of a novel written by Kalki. After wanting to make this movie for long, director Mani Ratnam is finally realising his dream.
Chiyaan Vikram is said to be playing the role of Aditya Karikalan, while Jayam Ravi is reportedly playing Raja Raja Cholan and Karthi is touted to play Vanthiyathevan. Trisha will be playing Kundavai with Aishwarya Rai reportedly playing Nandhini. Now during a live interaction, Galatta’s journalist Shakti had asked Mani Ratnam why he hasn’t acted in a film so far? Will he act if he gets an offer? The OK Kanmani actor replied saying - “Yeah, Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya asked me to act in a film, I said no why because, if I had acted and when I had got back to directing, the actor would pin point and say, I saw how bad you had acted. Now I can be like I know everything and I can demand the best from every actor. I guess, this way it is better for me.”
