Actor K. Manikandan's Lover is all set for its theatrical release on February 9 ahead of Valentine's Day and the buzz for the film has been positive so far. Directed by Prabhuram Vyas, who is best known for the hit web series Livin', the upcoming film also stars Sri Gouri Priya of Modern Love Chennai (2023) fame, with Kanna Ravi, Saravanan, Geetha Kailasam, Harish Kumar, Nikhila Shankar, Rini, Pintu Pandu, Arunachaleshwaran, among others appearing in major supporting roles, and features music composed by Sean Roldan. With less than a week left for the release of Lover, the lead pair Manikandan and Sri Gouri Priya, and director Prabhuram Vyas sat down for an exclusive interview with Galatta to talk in detail about the film, and also address the comparison with the blockbuster Pradeep Ranganathan and Ivana-starrer Love Today (2022).

Although Love Today was made at a minimal budget and went on to become a major box office success, one criticism cited against the film was that it was male chauvinistic presenting only the hero's stance and ignored the female viewpoint. Addressing how Lover is different from Love Today, the film's director Prabhuram Vyas explained, "We didn't try to give a message or judgment in this film. We've dealt it as a character study. There is a character Arun and another named Divya. How they behave and their behaviors lead to certain outcomes. There was a solution in that story for those characters. I don't wish to say that this is the general solution for life. Similarly, I believe I have written this story balancing the male and the female perspectives. However, at the end of the day, I'm a male and there will be biases, but we have tried to present both perspectives."
