India stood tall at the 66th annual Grammy Awards 2024 held in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, February 4. Shakti, a fusion band featuring John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist), brought home the honors for their work in 'This Moment', which won the Best Global Music Album award. Taking to X, the official Grammys account shared the big news in their post, "Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs."

Delivering his acceptance speech at Grammys 2024, Shankar Mahadevan started off by saying, "John Mclaughlin is missing today, we miss you John ji. Thank you boys, and thank you, God, family, friends and India, we are proud of you India", which led to a big roar. Concluding his statement, he said, "Last but not least, I’d like to dedicate to award to my wife to whom my every note of music is dedicated. Love you." Zakir Hussain also won the Best Global Music Performance Grammy for his contribution to 'Pashto', which saw him collaborate with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia, and edge past PM Narendra Modi, Falu and Gaurav Shah's song 'Abundance in Millets'. Ricky Kej, Indian music composer and a three-time Grammy Award winner himself, congratulated Shakti by sharing a video of their acceptance speech. Expressing his joy for their triumph on the global stage, he wrote, "SHAKTI wins a Grammy!!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!! #IndiaWinsGrammys."
