National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut has confirmed on social media that she is playing the female lead in Chandramukhi 2, the sequel to 'Superstar' Rajinikanth’s 2005 horror-comedy blockbuster, Chandramukhi. Currently, one of the most exciting Tamil ventures in the making under the Lyca Productions banner, the upcoming film being directed by iconic Tamil filmmaker P. Vasu has Raghava Lawrence playing the lead role. Kangana announced being a part of Chandramukhi 2 on her Instagram stories and wrote, "Excited to be doing another Tamil film with legendary P Vasu ji", while sharing a news article quoting her casting in the film.

Chandramukhi 2 was announced back in June this year and also has legendary actress Raadhika Sarathkumar and 'Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu playing pivotal roles, including a stellar technical team on board featuring the likes of MM Keeravani for the music, followed by cinematography by RD Rajasekar, and art direction by 'Thotta' Tharani. Kangana, who starred opposite Jayam Ravi in Dhaam Dhoom in 2006, and portrayed the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in Thalaivii last year, is returning to Tamil cinema now in Chandramukhi 2, which is already carrying high expectations.

Filming on Chandramukhi 2 has been progressing at a brisk pace after the team wrapped up the first schedule back in July. Raghava Lawrence had shared photos of bulking up for his role in the film, with many on social media left stunned and speechless after witnessing his radical physical transformation. It is to be noted that Jyotika played the titular role in Chandramukhi, which was first made in Malayalam under the title Manichitrathazhu, and saw Shobana portray the role of a dancer in a king’s court and earned her the National Award. The film has since been remade in Hindi as well under the title Bhool Bhulaiyaa, with Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in the lead roles, and its sequel, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, starring Tabu, Kartik Aaryan, and Kiara Advani releasing earlier this year.
