The 67th National Film Awards was officially announced this evening (March 22) in Delhi and here is what you need to know. Dhanush has won the National Film Award in the category of Best Actor for his outstanding performance in Vetri Maaran's directorial, Asuran. This is Dhanush's second National Award - with the first one being for Aadukalam, which was also directed by Vetri Maaran. When Asuran got released, the audience and critics raved Dhanush's performance and it became the talk of the town. Dhanush's emotional performance as Sivasaami won the hearts of the audience and it is good to know that his performance has got deserving recognition. It can be recalled that many people believed that Dhanush will definitely bag a National Award for his performance in Asuran and the belief has now turned out to be true.

Asuran was directed by Vetri Maaran and produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu under the banner of V Creations. The film was based on the Tamil novel, 'Vekkai', written by Poomani and Vetri Maaran did a fine job in adapting the novel into a film. Asuran witnessed family audiences storming into the theatres and the emotional knot in the story struck a chord with the audience. Dhanush's fantastic performance elevated the film's impact to a different level. Asuran featured popular Malayalam actress Manju Warrier as the female lead and it marked her debut in Tamil cinema. 

The film's star cast also included Teejay Arunasalam, Ken Karunaas, Pasupathi, Aadukalam Naren, Prakash Raj, Ammu Abhirami, Balaji Sakthivel, Pawan, and others. Asuran had music composed by GV Prakash Kumar who produced a striking album. Velraj handled the film's cinematography. The film opened to unanimously positive reviews and went on to become a phenomenal blockbuster at the box office.
