Tamil Nadu government issued a new press release to the media on Wednesday informing the state's response to the novel coronavirus and the various relief efforts being undertaken by medical officials and health officials. The state has now revealed that 817 people have been identified to have contracted the COVID-19 infection on May 27 with the total in Tamil Nadu now rising to 18,545. Among the 817 new cases, 138 are from Maharashtra and 1 from Kerala with the count now being the highest for a single day to date in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai district has registered 558 new cases in the last 24 hours taking the total to date to 12,192 cases. Six people succumbed to their deaths on Wednesday as a result of COVID-19 infecting them taking Tamil Nadu's death toll to 133 so far. There have been 567 new recoveries today as the total number of discharges in the state has risen to 9,909. The number of people placed in isolation upon suspicion of being infected with coronavirus has now gone up to 5,771.
