Veteran Tamil writer - director passes away - TN Chief Minister pays final respect!
Yesteryear Tamil writer and director K Sornam, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 8. Reports suggest that Sornam died following a brief illness. He was 88 years old. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, along with his wife Durga and son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, visited Sornam's house and paid his final respect. MK Stalin shared his condolence message through an official statement in which he said, "As a writer, director, dialogue writer, and journalist, he was a multi-faceted personality. He was the editor-in-charge for Ilaya Suriyan, which I launched and managed. His role as an editor was invaluable.
While in Murasoli, he took full responsibility of bringing out Pudhaiyal, a weekly supplement, and archived Kalaignar's writings. He was associated with Kalaignar since his school days and went on to become one of the brightest writers to have come from Murasoli". Similarly, Udhayanidhi Stalin took to his official Twitter space to share his condolence message on Sornam's death.
Sharing the pictures of his family paying homage to K Sornam, Udhayanidhi wrote, "முத்தமிழறிஞருடன் முரசொலியிலும், கழக தலைவர் அவர்கள் நடத்திய இளையசூரியன் ஏட்டிலும் முக்கிய பொறுப்புகளை வகித்தவர்; திரைப்பட இயக்குனர் - வசன கர்த்தா - அரசியல் என இயங்கிய சொர்ணம் மாமா அவர்களின் மறைவையடுத்து அவரது உடலுக்கு இன்று மரியாதை செய்தோம். குடும்பத்தாருக்கு ஆறுதல்-ஆழ்ந்த இரங்கல்".
For the unversed, K Sornam is a well-known Tamil journalist, film dialogue writer, and director. Notably, Sornam had directed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's debut film as an actor, Ore Raththam. Stalin played an important role in that film which featured Navarasa Nayagan Karthik and Bhagyalakshmi in the lead roles. Ore Raththam's story was written by Kalaignar Karunanidhi and the music was composed by Devendran. Sornam was credited as Swarnam in that film.
Interestingly, Sornam has written dialogues for several superhit films of MGR including Nam Naadu and Adimai Penn. Sornam was very closely associated with Kalaignar Karunanidhi and was also known for his work in Murasoli.
