The Great Indian Kitchen is one of the recent films that garnered wide attention among the Southern audience. The film which featured Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles was directed by Jeo Baby. The film received positive reviews from the critics and audience for talking about the reality of a woman's life in an orthodox family. Nimisha Sajayan left a solid impact with his impressive performance. Produced by Dijo Augustine, Jomon Jacob, Vishnu Rajan and Sajin S Raj, the film had music scored by Sooraj S Kurup and Mathews Pulickan, cinematography by Salu K Thomas, and editing by Francies Louis. The Great Indian Kitchen had a direct OTT release on Nee Stream platform and it released on January 15.

The film is now all set to be remade in Tamil and it will be directed by R Kannan who is known for making films like Jayam Kondan, Settai, Kanden Kadhalai, Ivan Thandhiran, Biskoth, and more. R Kannan has acquired the Tamil and Telugu remake rights and he will also be bankrolling the film under his banner of Masala Pix. The shooting of this untitled film will begin in March in Karaikkudi and director Kannan is currently busy planning the schedules.

Talking to Times of India, R Kannan said, "I’ve acquired the Tamil and Telugu remake rights of the Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen, and will be directing it simultaneously in both the languages. Since it’s bilingual, I’ll be casting a leading actress who’s popular in both industries. Even the male lead is well known in the south. I’ve almost zeroed in on the cast, and will be announcing them soon.”. Kannan has also informed that the film will have cinematography by PG Muthiah and dialogues penned by popular write, Pattukottai Prabhakar.

Meanwhile, director Kannan is awaiting the release of his next film, Thalli Pogathey, which is the remake of the Nani - Nivetha Thomas starrer, Ninnu Kori. Atharvaa and Premam fame Anupama Parameswaran have reprised the lead roles in the Tamil remake and it is expected to release in theatres very soon. The film's teaser which released a few months before had got a mixed reception from the fans.
