Thalapathy Vijay is still basking in the success of his Bigil but is already shooting in full swing for his next movie. This new movie, which is going by the working title Thalapathy 64, is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of Kaithi fame. The banner behind this project is Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators. The movie went on floors only recently but is already progressing very briskly, as the team has been shooting very fast. Even currently, they are having an ongoing schedule in Chennai, following which they are planning to have a schedule in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Recently, there have been a lot of speculations about the rights for this movie being sold.

A Twitter user posted a message that the overseas rights for Thalapathy 64 had been acquired by former Lyca Productions employee Mr. Karunamoorthy. The post also mentioned that the rights were sold for Rs. 29 Crores. Responding to this post, Mr. Jagadish, the Executive Producer of Thalapathy 64 mentioned that this news is completely fake. Just recently, it was reported that the audio, digital and satellite rights of the movie had already been sold, that too for a whopping price. There are a lot of expectations on this movie, as director Lokesh Kanagaraj has had massive successes with his first two outings - Maanagaram and Kaithi.

Thalapathy 64 also stars Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi in an important role. Malavika Mohanan of Petta fame is playing the female lead while Andrea has also been roped in for a vital role. Earlier, it was announced that Malayalam actor Anthony Varghese was a part of the team but he was later replaced by Arjun Das of Kaithi fame. The ensemble cast of this movie has a lot of other actors. Rockstar Anirudh is scoring the music for this movie, which has cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Philomin Raj.
