Actor Suriya has often spoken about the importance of education for all students over the years and began the Agaram Foundation that facilitates thriving minds with necessary assistance. The Tamil superstar's speech last year on the National Education Policy Draft as well was highly appreciated by people from all walks of life. Recently, the Tamil Nadu government's proposal to introduce Board Examinations (Public Exams) for the fifth and eighth standard students drew a difference of opinion among many including Suriya. Having said that, the TN Government has withdrawn their proposal to bring the Public Exams for students of fifth and eighth classes, which has now been welcomed by the leading star.

In a statement issued on his Twitter page, Suriya said, "Agaram Foundation realizes the difficulty in bringing in students who have dropped out of their schooling. The learning capabilities of students cannot be judged based on public examinations. The decision to scrap the public examinations for students of fifth and eighth classes is welcomed by us all. My heartfelt gratitude to the Education Minister and the Tamil Nadu government,".
