Leading Tamil actor Arya appeared before the Chennai city police's Cyber Crime wing on Tuesday after a complaint was filed by a Sri Lankan woman named Vidja, who claimed that he had cheated her of Rs. 70 lakh. In her police complaint, the woman also alleged that Arya had given her assurances of marrying her. Currently settled in Germany, Vidja had earlier written to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) and the President stating the actor had borrowed Rs 70.40 lakh from her. 

Vidya said that Arya was going through financial issues as a result of the lockdown. She later decided to proceed forward by filing a case against the actor. On Tuesday evening, Arya arrived at the Chennai Commissioner's office at around 7 pm after being called to appear before the Cyber Crime wing inspector Geetha. The interrogation is said to have gone around for three hours. However, no case has been registered yet, a police officer had said. "This is a formal inquiry to record his statement based on the woman’s complaint," the officer stated. 

Arya is married to actress Sayyeshaa Saigal and the two were blessed with their first child, a baby girl, on July 23. The couple, who have starred together in films like Ghajinikanth, Kaappaan and Teddy, tied the knot in a grand wedding in March 2019. On the work front, Arya's last release, the period boxing drama Sarpatta Parambarai under Pa. Ranjith's direction has turned out to be a stupendous success, with rave reviews from critics and fans alike. He will next be seen in Vishal's action thriller, Enemy, in which he has been cast as the antagonist.
