Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr's father Robert Downey Sr. passed away on Wednesday after suffering from Parkinson''s disease for nearly five years. He was 85. Sharing a throwback photo, Robert Downey Jr posted an emotional and heartfelt eulogy in memory of his father and wrote, "RIP Bob D Sr. 1936-2021... Last night, dad passed peacefully in his sleep after years of enduring the ravages of Parkinson's... He was a true maverick filmmaker, and remained remarkably optimistic throughout." He added, "According to my stepmoms calculations, they were happily married for just over 2000 years. Condolences poured in from fans around the world, including several other notable Hollywood stars like Jeremy Jenner, Vin Diesel, who paid their tributes. Known to be a filmmaker, Robert Downey Sr. was also an actor producer, writer and cinematographer and is remembered for Putney Swope, Ball's Bluff, Babo 73, Chafed Elbows and No More Excuses. His last directorial was in 2005 when he made the documentary Rittenhouse Square, which was about a small Philadelphia park.

Robert Downey Jr., who has become a massive sensation around the world after playing the role of Tony Stark / Iron Man in the Avengers films and other Marvel Studios blockbusters like Iron Man and Captain America, has also starred in the Sherlock Holmes films. Last seen in the fantasy adventure Dolittle while also serving as an executive producer on Netflix's Sweet Tooth, Robert Downey Jr's next film is the sports comedy All Star Weekend
