Popular Tamil director Thamira passed away, this morning (April 27) due to Covid 19 complications. A few days before, director Thamira was tested positive for the Corona virus and he was admitted to a private hospital in KK Nagar, Chennai for medical treatment. Unfortuntely, he breathed his last, this morning and his demise has come as a shocker for the Tamil film fraternity. He was 53 years old. Notable film personalities and fans have been expressing their heartfelt condolences on social media. At this juncture, Galatta Media expresses deepest condolences to Thamira's near and dear ones and prays for the departed soul to rest in peace. Director Thamira is survived by his wife, Bashiriya, two sons - Mohammed Rashid, Irshad Rizwan, and a daughter, Bhavshiya. ​

Director Thamira, who started his film career as an assistant director to legendary filmmaker, K Balachander, made his debut as a director in Tamil cinema with Rettaisuzhi. Thamira managed to bring in two legendary filmmakers together on screen for the first time - K Balachander and Bharathiraja and the film was produced by director Shankar's S Pictures. Apart from K Balachander and Bharathiraja, Rettaisuzhi also featured Bigg Boss Aari Arujunan, Anjali, Jayachitra, Manobala, Karunaas, in supporting roles. Later, Thamira directed the Samuthirakani starrer Aan Devathai in which Bigg Boss sensation Ramya Pandian played the female lead. Aan Devathai was appreciated by the audience for its premise.

Thamira has already directed the Tamil web series titled My Perfect Husband, which is due for release. My Perfect Husband features Sathyaraj and Seetha in the lead roles, while VJ Rakshan, Raghavi Sampath, and Bigg Boss fame Aajeedh Khalique play supporting roles. The series will stream on Disney + Hotstar platform very soon. It is highly unfortunate that director Thamira wouldn't be alive to witness the audience's response to his work. The release date for the series is yet to be finalized and further details are awaited.

Director Thamira played a crucial role in making Aari participate in the fourth season of Bigg Boss. In one of his interviews, Aari had revealed that it was director Thamira who referred him and asked him to take part in the Bigg Boss show. The rest was history.
