Former child actor Matthew Mindler, best known for starring in the 2011 Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel-starrer, Our Idiot Brother, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday. He was 19. A Pennsylvania coroner's office said on Wednesday (September 1) that Mindler died by suicide. Earlier, Mindler had gone missing from his university in Pennsylvania, who announced the news of his demise in an email to its student body. The email from Millersville University read, "It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University. Our thoughts of comfort and peace are with his friends and family during this difficult time."

The statement continued, "A search had been underway for Matthew since Thursday, after he was reported missing. Millersville University Police and law enforcement agencies from the area had been searching for him since that time. This is a time of grief for the family, our campus and the community. I ask that the campus community come together to support each other, and our students, during this difficult time." On August 26, the university reported that Mindler had gone missing, with law enforcement agencies and the police kicking off a search for him since then. He was discovered dead in Manor Township on Saturday after which his body was taken to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for investigation. As of now, no reason has been issued on the cause of his death.

Matthew Mindler garnered appreciation from fans and critics for his performance in Our Idiot Brother as the son of Liz (Emily Mortimer) and Dylan (Steve Coogan), who is controlled by them and eventually struggle to express his views. He also acted in an episode on the 2009 series, As the World Turns, while also making appearances on shorts like Frequency (2013) and Solo (2015).
