The Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder incident in 2012 shook the entire nation with parents of the young student fighting since then for the four convicted to be punished as per the law. The Supreme Court, finally, after a midnight hearing, rejected the last-minute plea that was filed by one of the convicts who had sought a review of the death penalty, after which the four convicted were executed this morning. The four men - Akshay Kumar Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh Singh - were hanged this morning at 5:30AM at the Tihar Jail in Delhi.

The 23-year-old medical student, who came to be called Nirbhaya, had died of injuries after the four convicted had gang-raped and murdered her in a moving bus in Delhi in December 2012. Meanwhile, actor Karthi has welcomed the execution of the four accused today after the horrific incident that took place eight years back. He then went on speak about the Pollachi assault case while questioning as to how long it will take for justice to be delivered to the victims since its been over a year now. Karthi is referring to the incidents a year back in Pollachi when a moneylender named Thirunavakarasu and his assistant T Vasanthakumar, textile shop owner M. Satish, Manivannan and Sabarirajan alias Riswanth were arrested after they coaxed young girls and gang-raped them while also filming the acts on video to blackmail them. The video of a girl begging to be spared after being beaten up was released and led to a huge outcry across Tamil Nadu while also grabbing the headlines everywhere in the nation.
