May 17 - TN COVID Update: 639 New Cases | 4 New Deaths | Total - 11,224 Cases & 75 Deaths
It is that time of the day when the official number of the COVID-19 cases are released and May 17th has again given out high numbers. After a couple of days with low numbers, there was a feeble hope of the infection plateauing but today's numbers have taken them for a toss! The numbers are still very high, especially in Chennai. The official numbers of #COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus cases in Tamil Nadu are out and we have it for you. The last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 639 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 11,224! Of these, 480 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 6,750, with Chengalpattu having 28 cases, Tiruvallur registering 18 new cases and Madurai recording 10!
There have been 4 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 75. As of now, Chennai is the biggest hotspot in the state and has 6,750 cases registered, of which 5,220 are active. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 6,971! The number of recoveries has seen a record high today, with 634 new recoveries and discharges and the total number of recovered people is now at 4,172. There have been 13,081 samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 326,720! The Tamil Nadu Government has followed the Maharashtra Government and in announcing the extension of the lockdown till the 31st of May, which was followed by a similar announcement from the Indian Central Government!
