American television actor Isaiah Stokes, known for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, has been charged with murder by a Queens, N.Y. grand jury on Friday. The popular TV actor has been accused of shooting a man in February who sat in a parked car in Jamaica, Queens. "The defendant is accused of unloading nearly eleven shots during this brazen afternoon shooting," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz issued a statement in a press release."Gun violence is all too prevalent in our neighborhoods. We will not allow it to become the norm," she added.
Isaiah Stokes was prosecuted before Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder on a three-count indictment, who charged him with second-degree murder and two counts of possession of a weapon in the second degree. If found guilty, he will be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. In the charges leveled against Stokes, surveillance footage from February 7 revealed that the actor came out of a vehicle and went to the driver-side window of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and allegedly shot 11 bullets into the car, leaving Tyrone Jones, a 37-year-old man from Queens Village, with serious injuries. No motive behind the gunshots has been reported by the law enforcement.
A native of Queens, Isaiah Stokes was raised in the Rochdale Village neighborhood in South Jamaica, and studied at the Delaware State University. He made his acting debut in the 2006 direct-to-video crime drama Killa Season and went on to land roles in several network and cable TV shows. He has made appearances in shows like Rescue Me, Louie, Blue Bloods and The Americans, including roles in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Boardwalk Empire and Power.
