Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha starred together in 96, a film which struck a chord with the audience. The film received an overwhelming response from the fans and general audience. Ram and Jaanu became one of the most favourite and beautifully written characters in the history of Tamil cinema and they eventually got a very special place in the hearts of the fans. Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha delivered their best natural performances that made the audience feel more relatable to the characters.

Not to forget the mesmerising musical score of Govind Vasantha who weaved magic with ‘Kadhale Kadhale’ and other memorable tunes. 96 turned out to be a blockbuster hit at the box office that also managed to earn critical acclaim for its poignant emotions and mature making. The film was directed by popular cinematographer C Prem Kumar and it marked his directorial debut. Produced by S Nanthagopal's Madras Enterprises, 96 had cinematography by Mahendiran Jayaraju and N Shanmuga Sundaram. Apart from the leads, 96 also featured Aadithya Baaskar and Gouri G Kishan who played the younger versions of the lead characters. Devadarshini, Bagavathi Perumal, Janagaraj, Varsha Bollamma formed the supporting cast.

The film was remade in Telugu and that version featured Sharwanand and Samantha in the lead roles. The film, which was titled Jaanu, was directed by Prem Kumar. Though Jaanu did not turn out to be a box office success, Samantha’s performance in the film earned positive reviews. Having said that, popular music label Think Music has now made an interesting mash up video of 96 and Jaanu. Instead of Trisha, we see Samantha in this video and it gives us a glimpse of how it would have been if Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha played the leads.

This mashup video has got a very good response from the fans and it has garnered a lot of attention on social media. The mashup has been interestingly done and it makes us long for more. For a change, it is indeed very fresh to see Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha.
