Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay, fondly addressed as 'Thalapathy', has issued a statement urging everyone to fulfill their "democratic duty" by casting their vote in the General Elections 2024 held on Friday, April 19. Sharing pictures and videos of himself while going to cast his vote in Chennai earlier today at the polling booth in Kapaleeswaran Nagar in Neelankarai, the leading Tamil actor said via the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam page on X (formerly Twitter), "I have done my democratic duty. I also kindly request you to go to your polling station and do your democratic duty."

Vijay was seen entering the polling both amidst a huge crowd turnout, while getting mobbed by the press and his fans to cast his vote in the first phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Many fans and media persons had gathered outside the actor's residence in the wee hours anticipating his return from Russia where he had been filming his upcoming film, The Greatest Of All Time, being directed by Venkat Prabhu. Vijay, who had launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam back in February, had announced that the party would not be contesting in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and all sights are now set on its electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. "Politics is not just another career for me. It is a sacred work for the people. Politics is not a hobby for me as it's my deepest desire. I want to fully involve myself in it. I would also like to inform that I am going to complete all duties on the film I have already agreed to, without interfering with party work, and fully engage in politics for the service of the people. I consider that as my debt of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu," the actor said in his statement at the time.

Prior to diving full-time into politics, Vijay will bid farewell from cinema after his last film, the tentatively titled Thalapathy 69, which is yet to be officially announced and is expected to be launched soon. The actor is meanwhile filming The Greatest Of All Time, a high octane action entertainer, and will be appearing in dual roles, with the film announced to open in cinemas worldwide on the festive occasion of Vinayagar Chathurthi on September 5.
