Sony Pictures International Productions has bagged the film adaptation rights for one of India's most popular superheroes, Shaktimaan, and will now be reimagined for the big screen as a trilogy. The studio had already made inroads in Malayalam, Telugu, including Tamil most recently, and has now partnered with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited in association with actor-producer Mukesh Khanna’s Bheeshm International, to launch Shaktimaan for the big screen. It is unknown at this point as to who is going to direct the upcoming films nor is there any word on the star cast and the crew. 

Announcing the Shaktimaan trilogy, Sony Pictures India said in a statement, "After the super success of our many superhero films in India and all over the globe, it's time for our desi Superhero! Sony Pictures International Productions is set to bring ‘Shaktimaan’ to the big screen, and will recreate the magic of the iconic superhero, to be headlined by one of India’s superstars. We are excited to join hands with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited, and Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International. Get ready for #ShaktimaanMovie; more details coming soon." 

The original Shaktimaan TV series aired in Hindi and was telecast for eight years after its debut in 1997, with the show soon garnering a large fan following over the years. Shaktimaan marks Sony Pictures India's entry in the Indian superhero movie space, with the studio also informing that it will be consulting its parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment for further expertise and the latest in the technology for the filmmaking and post-production works.
