The Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, is a highly sensitive area. Earlier today, 2 staff members of the High Commission went missing, after stepping out of the premises. After several hours of not knowing the whereabouts of these two people - a driver and a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, it was broadcast on Pakistani media that these 2 staffers of the Indian High Commission had been involved in a hit-and-run car accident. Two other Indian High Commission officials immediately approached the Islamabad Secretariat Police Station, which is just about 2 Kms from the High Commission premises, and the 2 missing people were handed over to them.
Reports state that the 2 missing people had visible injuries and the reports in Pakistani media state that the public captured them both after the car accident occurred! On seeing the media reports, New Delhi immediately summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires in India - Syed Haider Shah and demanded that the 2 missing personnel and their vehicle be immediately returned safely to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad and reiterated that the safety of all Indian diplomatic personnel in Pakistan was that of their government! Further details are expected to emerge once the two returned staff members are debriefed. Rumours in diplomatic circles are that this incident is a direct retaliation for the expulsion of 2 Pakistan diplomats from their High Commission at New Delhi. Stay tuned for updates!
