Most countries have relaxed quite a few of the lockdown rules or are in the process of doing them. India too, is slowly getting back to normalcy with the Central Government rolling back the lockdown restrictions in many places across the country. Most of the states in India have begun allowing inter-district travel but still inter-state travel has a number of restrictions. Thus, it looks like international travel would also take some more time to resume. However, we now hear that Air India will begin booking for international flights to 7 destinations in the US & Canada, as part of the Vande Bharat mission!

Air India starts booking for International flights

The third phase of the Vande Bharat Mission will see Air India operate flights to New York, Newark, Chicago, Washington, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto. Bookings for these flights will open from June 5th. Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has stated that only when the domestic flight operations touch 50-60% of their original capacity and after considering the behaviour of the Virus, would thought be given to resuming international flight operations. He has also stated that, till then the Vande Bharat Mission flights would facilitate both inbound and outbound passengers. The guidelines issued by the MHA state that international flights can resume operations from the third phase of the unlocking but there is no definite date for it as yet, as the first phase of unlocking begins on June 8th and the 2nd phase is set to begin in July!
