A student named 'Sunny Leone' wanted to pursue her Bachelor's Degree course with English Literature as her major course and applied in two West Bengal colleges for admission. Authorities at the Asutosh College in Kolkata were not pleased after they printed the merit list of applicants for the undergraduate course on Thursday, with the name of applicant number one turning out to be that of the former adult star turned Bollywood actor. Her name was on top in view of her exemplary Class 12 board exams - 400 on 400. Authorities were dismayed after they realized the incident was a prank, which left fellow applicants in splits. A complaint was then filed by the college authorities with the Cyber Police at the Kolkata Police headquarters, Lal Bazaar.

A similar incident was reported later in the day from Kolkata's Budge Budge college, where a candidate named Sunny Leone had applied for the same course. Owing to her poor Class 12 marks, her name had appeared on the fifth page of the merit list, with the police since registering a case after complaints were lodged. An investigation into the matter is currently underway. With Sunny Leone's name making its way into the admission merit lists, which although are pranks, it has in a manner of speaking exposed the cracks in the online admission system, where anybody can file an application with false information.

On the contrary, Ms Leone, who is currently living in Los Angeles, US, upon coming across the news, took to her Twitter on Friday and tweeted, "See you all in college next semester!!! Hope you are in my class," she said and followed that with three smileys. Her tweet has since garnered more than 2,100 comments, over 3,800 retweets and a staggering 45,000+ likes. One fan replied to her tweet saying, "The entire Kolkata will welcome you madam. I will quit my job and take admission again."
