Residents of Kandhampattiin Salem have expressed outrage after projectile shrapnel, thrown off a puncture repair shop following a mishap, fell through the roof a home located 100 metres away and hit two boys who were getting ready for school.
According to sources, a puncture repair shop located on the Kandhampatti Bypass had a freak accident early on Friday morning. The air tank in the shop burst, sending parts all around.
A broken piece was thrown off a 100 metres and fell through the tiled roof of a residential building. Siblings Maulishwaran and Ritheshwaran were reportedly getting ready for school when the mishap occurred. They were sitting in the hall, having breakfast, when the debris fell through. While Ritheshwaran suffered serious injuries to the thigh, Maulishwaran lost his hand, from the right wrist.
Sources said that their parents were daily wage labourers who worked in nearby concerns. Both boys are under care at a government hospital in the district.
