On one hand, lives are being lost in the hundreds and the list of infected patients is rising by the thousands. On the other hand, livelihoods are lost because of the suspension of all public activities and lockdown of almost all businesses. One of the first businesses to be affected and still being affected is the entertainment industry, with the suspension of all shooting and lockdown of all theatres! India is currently going through a 21-day lockdown period, imposed by the Central Government and all the people are being advised to stay indoors and practice social distancing.

Multiplex Association of India requests landlords to waive off rent and maintenance

In such a situation, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) has written an open letter to all the landlords of the properties in which the multiplexes are operating from. In this letter, the MAI has pleaded with the landlords to waive off the rent & Common Area Maintenance (CAM) for the multiplexes, during the lockdown period, till the time normalcy is restored to the world, the entertainment industry is ressurected and all the people resume coming to theatres to watch movies. The letter points out that though most industries are facing losses and reduction in revenue, the multiplexes are facing a situation of zero income and need some help to sustain in this current situation. The MAI represents over 18 multiplex chains across India and is the voice of about 90% of the multiplex industry.
