Suriya's Soorarai Pottru has turned out to be a grand success for the actor-producer, who jointly bankrolled the action drama under his 2D Entertainment banner in association with Sikhya Entertainment. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film premiered on Amazon Prime Video last November as a grand Diwali treat and continues to be the talk of the town for its making, performances and other technical aspects. Featuring chart-buster music by G. V. Prakash Kumar, Soorarai Pottru completed 100 days this week, with the makers treating fans to never-before-seen scenes, including new visuals on Saturday.

Suriya's 2D Entertainment released three back-to-back deleted scenes from Soorarai Pottru that were sliced from the final cut of the film fans had gotten to witness when it began streaming on Amazon Prime. The makers had gone through a number of hurdles in bringing the film out to viewers, despite skipping its theatrical release in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the makers also faced a minor setback after its initial premiere plan of October 30 was pushed to another two weeks till November 12 due to a delay in obtaining the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Air Force (IAF) as Soorarai Pottru’s plot was set largely around the aviation industry.

With three months passed since Soorarai Pottru began streaming, including being telecast as a Pongal treat on Sun TV, the film continues to bask in the glory of critical acclaim. Among those who have been praised the most are director Sudha Kongara for her tightly-packaged screenplay, including its making, while Suriya has been lauded for his electrifying performance. In that light, Aparna Balamurali, who played the female lead, left fans and critics stunned with her thunderous act, while veteran actress Urvashi and Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal were showered with praises for their deft acts. Soorarai Pottru was also dubbed in Telugu as Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra and is said to be inspired from the life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of the Air Deccan airliner.
