The wait is over - the much-awaited first look of 'Superstar' Rajinikanth in his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth's next directorial, Lal Salaam, has now been officially released by Lyca Productions. The blockbuster production-distribution banner unveiled the glimpse of the iconic Tamil actor on their social media handles on Monday at 12 a.m. Along with Rajinikanth's first look in the new Lal Salaam poster, Lyca Productions has also revealed that the veteran actor's character in the upcoming film will be called Moideen Bhai and is the first time in more than 25 years that he will be portrayed as a Muslim on the big screen. Although he changes his name from Manikkam to Manik Baashha in the 1995 Tamil cult classic box office hit, Baashha, the last time Rajinikanth played the role of a Muslim was in Insaniyat Ke Devta in Hindi in 1993.
In the new Lal Salaam poster, we see Rajinikanth as Moideen Bhai wearing in a sherwani suit and a red Kufi cap and walking amidst the backdrop of the Gateway of India in Mumbai, with intense scenes of a riot as well being shown where there are several people involved in violence, while a few others are seen running away. There is also newspaper print with the word 'Bombay', which is how Mumbai used to be called up until 1995 when the city's name was officially changed suggesting the film could possibly be set in the '90s or much earlier. Rajinikanth will be seen playing an extended cameo in Lal Salaam, which stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles. The film being directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth will be revolving around the sport of cricket and is the filmmaker's fourth directorial after 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015), and the documentary venture Cinema Veeran (2017). Rajinikanth had previously worked under her younger daughter Soundarya's direction in the 2014 film, Kochadaiiyaan. Lal Salaam will feature music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman and he is once again expected to come out with an interesting album and a powerful background score. A major schedule on Lal Salaam was wrapped in April, which lasted more than a month, and shooting on the film is now set to begin in Mumbai, with Rajinikanth joining the sets for the first time.
