Leading South Indian actress Priyamani has garnered a huge following in her nearly two-decade old career in the film industry, including garnering praise from North Indian audiences of late after starring in the hit Amazon Prime Video web series, The Family Man. Having won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her power-packed performance in Paruthiveeran in 2006, Priyamani got hitched to Mustafa Raj, an event organiser, in a private ceremony on 23 August, 2017. That said, her marriage is now being claimed as invalid by Mustafa's first wife Ayesha, who has alleged that they haven't filed for divorce. Now, Priyamani in an interview has spoken for the first time after the allegations against Mustafa were made and described her relationship with him to be as "secure"

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Priyamani stated, "Communication is the key. If you're asking about the relationship between me and Mustafa, by far... We are definitely very secure in our relationship, even though right now, he is in the US; he's working there. We make it a point that we talk to each other every day." She added that they make it a point to take time out of their busy schedules to catch up with each other despite being held up in different time zones. She said, "At least if not what has happened every day, then just 'hi' or 'hello'. If he's busy with work, he'll probably call me or text me once he's free. Or vice versa, if I'm busy with shooting, I would do that."

Debuting in Tamil cinema in Bharathiraja's Kangalal Kaidhu Sei, Priyamani, who has also starred in Malaikottai, Ninaithale Inikkum and Raavanan to name a notable few ventures, further spoke about her relationship with Mustafa stating, "We definitely make it a point to communicate with each other. If not anything, just a small thing like 'Are you OK?' That really goes far; if he's tired or if I am, if somebody is there to ask him, it speaks volumes about the person and what they feel about you. We are very secure, we make it a point to talk to each other, and that is the key to every relationship."

Mustafa Raj's first wife Ayesha had earlier this week told Times of India, "He is still married to me. Mustafa and Priyamani's marriage is invalid. We have not even filed for divorce and while marrying Priyamani, he declared in the court that he was a bachelor." Mustafa, who has two children with Ayesha, denied the allegations calling them "false" and added that they both had separated in 2010 and that their divorce was formalised in 2013. He said, "The charges against me are false. I am paying the children's maintenance to Ayesha regularly. She is simply trying to extort money from me."
