Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara's production venture, Koozhangal has been selected as India's Official Entry to the Oscars 2022 and this news has come as a big surprise for all the film buffs. It is indeed great to know that a small independent film like Koozhangal has made it to the Oscars race and this is surely one of the proudest moments for Tamil cinema and Indian cinema. Koozhangal has been quite a popular film in the International Film Festival circuits and it has bagged several accolades and honours from various countries and now, there is a chance for an Oscar as well.

Vetri Maaran's Visaaranai was the last Tamil film that represented India at the Oscars and after 5 years, we have a new Tamil film, Koozhangal. Lijo Jose Pellisery's acclaimed Malayalam film, Jallikattu was last year's submission for The Academy Awards. Vignesh Shivan took to his official social media pages to express his excitement and happiness on the same.

Sharing the poster of Koozhangal, Vignesh Shivan tweeted, "There’s a chance to hear this! “And the Oscars goes to …. “ Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives …. #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Can’t be prouder , happier & content". The makers of Koozhangal (Pebbles in English) will now have to promote the film in Los Angeles before the Oscars and there is a long process ahead for this talented team.

Koozhangal will contest in the category, 'Best International Feature Film' at The Academy Awards and in February 2022, we will get to know if Koozhangal has made it to the final list of nominations that will include 5 films from 5 different countries. Koozhangal is directed by debutant PS Vinoth Raj and has music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Produced by Rowdy Pictures in association with Learn and Teach Production, the film has cinematography by Vignesh Kumulai and Che Parthi, while the editing is handled by Ganesh Siva.
