COVID-19: Experts fear community spread has already begun in Chennai!
India is in the last few days of the fourth phase of the nation-wide lockdown imposed by the Central Government. Most of the countries including India have begun relaxing lockdown rules and there is a mild sense of normalcy returning to some places. However, in India, a few places like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have been most affected with there seeming to be no reduction in the spread of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus. The number of infected people and those losing their lives to this deadly Virus are only going up by the day. Despite the Tamil Nadu State Government reiterating that the spread is under check and that the people need not panic, there are some health experts who have a shocking assessment!
Some health authorities feel that Community Transmission of the Corona Virus is currently happening in Tamil Nadu, especially in Chennai. A doctor from a leading private hospital in Chennai states that there is widespread Community Transmission in Chennai as medical professionals are seeing patients who have no risk factors like contact with other infected patients nor history of travel. The doctor states that places outside of Chennai might not be witnessing Community Transmission but strongly feels that the Government authorities are in denial of it happening in the city. Another leading epidemiologist states that Community Transmission is definitely prevalent in Chennai but reiterates that this is how any epidemic grows and that it is not a failure on the part of the Government. All health professionals advocate following social distancing, masking and regular washing of hands and also state that testing should be intensified to avoid more aggressive spread of the Virus.
We urge all our readers, viewers and subscribers to follow all the government mandated guidelines and stay safe at home! Break the chain and flatten the curve!
