National Award-winning actor Dhanush's next film, the tentatively titled D40, under Karthik Subbaraj's direction completed its production on February 9, with Y Not Studios then announcing that the first look poster will be released on February 19. Producer S. Sashikanth is bankrolling the international gangster action thriller under his Y Not Studios banner in association with Reliance Entertainment and the team has now revealed that the film's Tamil Nadu theatrical rights have been acquired by popular producer and distributor, R. Raveendran's Trident Arts. Featuring music by Santhosh Narayanan, it has also been announced that D40 will be distributed in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana by GA2UV.
Although D40 went into active production last year under the Y Not Studios banner, the project was first announced by Dhanush after Karthik Subbaraj's Iraivi had released in 2016. Production on the film took more than two years to kick-off due to a line of projects both Dhanush and Karthik Subbaraj were already committed to.
The film's plot is set in locations in and around Tamil Nadu and the United Kingdom with excitement shooting up after Dhanush was spotted sporting the Madurai keda moustache as similar to his father-in-law and iconic actor 'Superstar' Rajinikanth in Petta. D40 also includes actress Aishwarya Lekshmi playing the female lead with Sanchana Natarajan, Kalaiayarasan and National Award-winning Malayalam actor Joju George among others in major starring roles.
