Blockbuster director A. R. Murugadoss's last release, Darbar, starring 'Superstar' Rajinikanth under the Lyca Productions banner hit screens last month as a grand Pongal treat and also featured Nayanthara as the female lead with Anirudh Ravichander's chart-buster songs. The film, which was announced early last year, also roped in Bollywood superstar, Suniel Shetty, to play the role of the antagonist, while actress Nivetha Thomas was cast to play the role of Rajinikanth's daughter, with their chemistry going on to be a major highlight.

Post its theatrical release, there has been a raging controversy over the past few days after distributors started claiming they had allegedly suffered huge losses due to the film's underperformance at the box office. Darbar's distributors had stated that they had come on board to distribute the film after feeling convinced by Rajinikanth and director A. R. Murugadoss's speeches at the audio launch and feel now that they haven't lived up to their words.

Likewise, reports are doing the rounds stating distributors of the film have been making attempts to meet with director A. R. Murugadoss at his office in Chennai regarding the Darbar loss controversy after which the hit filmmaker filed a petition at the court seeking police protection. Having said that, the Madras High Court has now issued orders to the police to submit a petition report based on A. R. Murugadoss's request for protection from the distributors of Darbar and it now remains to be seen how this situation transpires next.
