As the death toll around the world scales higher with the passage of each day due to the coronavirus, a 14-month-old baby boy has now been declared dead due to multiple organ failure in the Jamnagar district in Gujarat because of the disease. The baby boy, who was the son of a migrant labourer couple, with no recent travel history, had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on April 5, and died on the evening of Tuesday (April 7).
Being admitted under a critical condition, the toddler was placed on ventilator support and had succumbed to the effects of the coronavirus. The baby boy now becomes the youngest patient in Gujarat to die due to COVID-19 with the state's death toll now standing at 16. As of now, the total number of people who have tested positive for the coronavirus in Gujarat are 179 with 83 being reported from Ahmedabad alone and 25 being discharged after recovery.
The baby boy was incidentally the first and only patient to test positive for the coronavirus in the Jamnagar district while also being the youngest to be diagnosed with the disease in the state. Authorities have stated that the child's parents, migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh, are not showing any symptoms associated with the disease, but have been kept under quarantine. The couple were living in a nearby village named Dared, which is currently under lockdown to avoid the spread of the virus, with authorities now working to trace the source of the infection.
