As more than 3 billion people continue to remain under lockdown in over 180 countries owing to the coronavirus pandemic, which has taken over 70,000 lives, a total of 4,789 people have been declared as infected by the COVID-19 virus in India while the death toll in the country has risen to 124 and the number of people cured or discharged or migrated stands at 353 as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's website.

Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry in his latest statement has said that a person infected with the COVID-19 virus can infect only 2.5 persons during the lockdown. He elaborated saying a person with R-naught (the number of people an infected person can infect) of 2.5 who does not comply with the lockdown or social distancing, will end up infecting a total of 406 people in a span of 30 days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the citizens to be prepared for a long battle as he has advised the ministers to formulate a plan for a gradual transition from the nationwide lockdown.
