Popular Tamil actress Chithra, more popularly known as 'Nallennai' Chithra passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 21. She died due to a cardiac arrest at her residence in Saligramam. Chithra was 56. The funeral is said to take place today evening at 4 PM. Her demise has come as a shocker for the fans and members of the film fraternity and condolence messages have been pouring in on social media. She was fondly called as 'Nallennai' Chithra after she got featured in the advertisement of an oil company. In Malayalam, Chithra made her debut with the 1983 film, Attakalasham which starred Prem Nazir and Mohanlal in the lead roles.

As a child actor, Chithra has acted in classic Tamil movies like Apoorva Raagangal and Aval Appadithan. Among the lot, Chithra will be known for her impressive performance in the Sarath Kumar - Vijayakumar starrer Cheran Pandiyan, directed by KS Ravikumar. Some of Chithra's popular works in Tamil cinema include Raja Paarvai, Chinna Poove Mella Pesu, Manathil Uruthi Vendum, Oorkavalan, En Thangachi Padichava, Periya Kudumbam, Gopala Gopala, Rajali, etc. Chithra retired from the acting space around the mid 2000s to concentrate more on her personal commitments.
