Coronavirus lockdown | Chennai Corporation removes 795 streets from containment list
Chennai Corporation Commissioner G. Prakash has said that 795 streets in the city have so far been taken off the containment list while addressing the media near the Bharathi Arts College near Broadway. He stated that the said streets being removed from the containment list shows that operations within the containment zones have turned out to be successful.
Areas coming under containment were being released by the civic body once there were no cases reported over a period of 28 days and the city as on Wednesday has only 365 areas under containment. That said, Chennai Corporation has been releasing areas from containment over the past one week after no cases were reported over the past 14 days. Prakash stated that the possibility of movement and more cases popping up from these areas would have been visible if there was any mismanagement with the facilities and essentials were not provided at the right time.
When queried about sanitary workers not being able to take appropriate rest as doctors and health workers do, Mr. Prakash said their line of work cannot be compared with the others since the Chennai Corporation works 24X7. He did add saying resting areas are being arranged as the issue has been brought to the civic body's notice. Furthermore, he stated that a total of 45 sanitary inspectors have been inducted from the Municipal administration for strengthening the workforce while another 55 are currently outsourced.
