Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni's future has been a major subject of debate among fans since the World Cup last year and also because of his subsequent sabbatical from the sport. His last major game was for the national team in the 2019 World Cup when he played a memorable innings in the semi-finals against New Zealand and took the side close to the finals. Since then, however, there have been rumors that Dhoni is contemplating retirement from all forms of the game.

The rumors took a new upswing on Wednesday on Twitter when #DhoniRetires began trending, which left many of his ardent fans around the world shocked and confused. The 38-year-old cricketing superstar's hardcore fans soon after started sharing their favorite memories of the Indian veteran while also reminiscing some of his most memorable knocks and career moments.

On the other end of the spectrum, Dhoni's wife, Sakshi, had taken to her Twitter page to dismiss all the rumors that were floating around and said, "Its only rumours! I understand Lockdown has made people mentally unstable! #DhoniRetires .. Get a life!". That said, Sakshi later deleted her tweet as soon as it went viral on the micro-blogging site. Fans were waiting with much anticipation for Dhoni to don the cricket gear once again in IPL 2020, which has since been indefinitely postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. With talks now doing the rounds that this year's IPL edition could still take place sometime in October-November with a final decision awaited, fans expect Dhoni to return as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and take the team to glory once again.
