The final journey has begun for Tamil actor-politician Vijayakanth, who passed away in Chennai on December 28. Addressed fondly as 'Captain' by his fans and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party cadre, the Tamil cinema stalwart's demise has left his fans and followers everywhere in a state of deep grief, who have been expressing their condolences and paying their tributes to his mortal remains and on social media. Several leading Tamil cinema celebrities, politicians, and eminent personalities from all walks of life paid homage to Vijayakanth at the DMDK headquarters in Koyambedu yesterday and at Island Grounds on Friday morning, December 29, with his mortal remains now being taken back to his party office premises where he will be laid to rest. 

Visuals and pictures of thousands of fans following Vijayakanth's mortal remains can now be seen, with many heartbroken to witness their beloved actor and leader leaving them forever. We see the DMDK founder lying inside a glass casket and being escorted by his wife Premalatha and sons Shanmuga Pandian and Vijay Prabhakar in a vehicle. The photos show Vijayakanth's mortal remains being taken from the Island Grounds across the EVR High Road while crossing landmark buildings like the Chennai Central railway station, and Ripon Building, to name a notable few. The Tamil Nadu government announced yesterday that Vijayakanth would be laid to rest with full State honors along with a gun salute. 

'Captain' Vijayakanth's death has come as a big shock to his followers, who had been praying for him to make a recovery from his health issues. The iconic Tamil cinema star was last seen earlier this month on December 14 at the 18th DMDK general meeting, which was his last major public appearance. Followers and fans of Vijayakanth have been bidding a tearful goodbye to the much-loved actor-politician, with people from all walks of life celebrating his life and honoring him by sharing stories of his compassion and benevolence for everyone.
