Bengali actress and Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan gave birth to her first child, a boy, on Thursday. The news was confirmed by her rumoured boyfriend, actor Yash Dasgupta, who said the baby and the mother are both well. He stated, "For those who have been enquiring about Nusrat's health, the mother and child are healthy and doing well." According to Dr Rajiv Agarwal, the child was given birth via C-section after Nusrat was admitted on Wednesday night to the Bhagirathi Neotia Hospital in Kolkata. Up until now, the popular actress turned politician had never officially confirmed or spoken about her pregnancy on social media. That said, she posted photos with her baby bump in June, including sharing pictures after her friends sent her a pregnancy-themed cake.

Nusrat has been involved in a controversy after she claimed that her marriage to businessman Nikhil Jain in Turkey in 2019 was invalid in accordance with the Indian laws. Nikhil claimed that Nusrat avoided the registration of their marriage despite his requests. Nusrat, who has since been reportedly dating actor-assembly poll candidate Yash Dasgupta, put out a statement to clarify that the wedding ceremony with Nikhil Jain was as per the Turkish Marriage Regulation and remains invalid in India.

Nusrat said, "Since it was an interfaith marriage, it requires validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen. As per law, it is not a marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship." She added, "Being rich does not always give a man the right to act as a victim and belittle the woman alone in this society. I have made my own identity by my sheer hard work; thus I would not allow anyone not related to me to share the limelight or a title or followers, based on my identity." Nusrat and Nikhil tied the knot in a destination wedding at Bodrum in Turkey in 2019.
